"He who wants to win the world for Christ must have the courage to come in conflict with it." Blessed Titus Brandsma The Temptation to stay where we are - Fr George Kosicki, Spiritual Warfare pg. 47
Christ crucified and risen is our victory! Rejoice! What has happened to Christ Jesus is to happen to us. We are to follow His steps to victory. And this is a real point of attack for Satan. He does not want us to "move on" as described in the Letter to the Hebrews, Chapter 5 and 6. Satan wants to prevent us from "moving on" to the maturity of victim-intercession. He want to prevent another crucificion at any cost. The crucificion of Christ´s Body, the Church, will mean the final completion of the warfare. We experience Satan´s attacks by his tempations to stay where we are, not to "move on". We experience fears of death (Heb. 2,15) and fears of the Cross. We take our eyes off our victorious Lord and look to our weakness and fears. This is Satan´s tactic. The battle cry of the Christian, however, is "Look to Jesus!" "Look to Christ Crucified and Risen! Rejoice for the accuser of our brothers is cast out!" The tomb is empty! Eternal Life -St Thomas Aquinas.
"Eternal life consists in the complete satisfaction of desire, for there the blessed will be given more than they wanted or hoped for. The reason is that in this life no one can fulfill his longing. Nor can any creature satisfy man´s desire. Only God satisfies. He infinitely exceeds all other pleasures . That is why the Lord says: Enter into the joy of your Lord." All value comes from the Passion of Christ - Bl. Columba Marmion "It is from Calvary, it is from the passion of Christ Jesus, that our acts of renunciation and mortification derive all their supernatural value to destroy sin and allow the divine life to unfold within us." Pastors - Saint. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori (On the Importance of Good Leaders)
The good morals and salvation of the people depend on good pastors. If there is a good priest in charge of the parish, you will soon see devotion flourishing, people frequenting the Sacraments, and honoring the practice of mental prayer. Hence the proverb: "Like pastor, like parish". According to this word of Ecclesiastes (10:2) "those who dwell in the state, take after their ruler."
